One Hour Cheese Book Tour Kick Off

As you may know, my book One Hour Cheese is complete, freshly printed and even starting to deliver early from Powell’s, Amazon, Barnes and Noble and other fine retailers! Hooray!!

I will be kicking off the book tour at Powell’s Books right here in Portland Oregon! Hope you can come out, it’s next Wednesday, May 7 at 7:30pm. Of course you know there will be cheese! I will be making the First Timer’s Cheese included in the first few pages of the book. It’s a yummy no-fail, ricotta-like cheese for the timid or skeptical! 😉 We will also have samples of the Chevre Kisses and Triple Pepper Hack (yes, I loved coming up with names!).

As if a Powell’s launch weren’t enough, I will also make my TV debut on Monday, May 5 on AM Northwest! If you’re not in Portland, don’t be sad you’ll miss seeing me sweat to make Chivo Fresco in 5 minutes, they will archive the show at 11am Pacific time so you too can laugh at me! If you are in Portland, it’s on local channel 2 KATU.

If you’re not in town here, I hope to cross paths with you somewhere in the U.S.! Check the event calendar, I’ll keep updating. Thanks so much for supporting Urban Cheesecraft! Claudia

ps. I’ll also be at Crafty Wonderland’s Super Colossal Spring Sale (crafty wedding focus) on May 10 with kits and books!

Enjoy this outtake photo that didn’t make it into the book! Aww sweet baby goat!

Two free Queso Blanco demonstrations coming your way!

Hello. I love the Montavilla Farmers Market! It’s in my neighborhood, I used to shop there and now I have little stall there most Sundays. Even though I can be a little shy (read- antisocial) normally, I have been enjoying talking to would-be and experienced cheesemakers tremendously. At this point people who bought a kit last week come and report on their experience- it’s so fun, such a community feel! This small but perfectly complete market is a treat- I hope you can check it out sometime (it will extend into Oct and Nov)!

A good day to come by is Sun. Oct. 4th when I will be demonstrating Queso Blanco with the market’s resident chef Kathryn.

We will make the cheese from start to finish and use market goodies to create a savory and sweet way to sample this versatile cheese (she will be working on a mostarda? or chutney of some sort!). It’s at 10:30am and free. I know you will LOVE this market too!

Then as a reminder, I will lead this very same demo at The Wedge Cheese Festival on Saturday Oct. 3 at 11am. I will be browning some queso in olive oil this day- you’ll be hooked…

Free class, free samples! How often does that happen?

So easy, so beautiful…so franch! Chevre is pretty no?

I just had to share these lovely goat cheese photos with you. These 3 little cheeses are the yield you get with the recipes I include in the goat cheese kit. A half-gallon of goat milk, a 1/4 C of vinegar, a variety of herbs and spices and you have a cheese tasting for several friends!

shameless plug for my new etsy shop www.UrbanCheesecraft.etsy.com

If you live in or near Portland, Oregon you’ll be excited to have access to cheese making supplies and kits locally through my new etsy shop www.UrbanCheesecraft.etsy.com!

When I was first getting into cheese making I was sad to find that I had to order from the US east coast or eastern Canada. I have done my darndest to source supplies locally in this order- from Oregon for most things and whenever possible, from California next and because I can’t avoid it yet, Canada but it’s the Western side not Quebec as is commonly found. Nothing against Quebec or the east coast, I just don’t want to buy things that have to travel so far to get to me.

So check it out and enjoy supporting a local business by trying a fun and delicious kitchen craft or getting a nice gift for a crafty person! Maybe mom?

In the kits you get all the cheese making supplies you need to get started. Here is a photo of the Mozzarella and Ricotta Kit. I also offer a Paneer and Queso Blanco as well as Fresh Goat Cheese/Chevre Kit. They run between $17-$26 so they’re totally affordable. Enjoy!
