Welcome friend!
At Urban Cheesecraft we believe homemade cheese should feel approachable, exciting, and genuinely doable in a real modern life.
You should not need a farm, a cave, expensive equipment, or an entire free weekend to make fresh mozzarella, creamy ricotta, tangy chèvre, queso fresco, paneer, burrata, or even cultured and aged cheeses at home.
You just need the right guidance.
Urban Cheesecraft was founded by Claudia Lucero, author of One-Hour Cheese, Instant Pot Cheese, Cooking with Whey and One Hour Dairy Free Cheese. Since 2009, Claudia has helped hundreds of thousands of beginners make their first cheeses at home through books, DIY kits, online classes, and hands-on teaching.
Her approach grew out of both tradition and practicality.
Claudia grew up surrounded by fresh Mexican cheeses and homemade food. Some of her earliest memories are of shopping trips in Tijuana with her grandmother, stopping first at the cheese counter for fresh queso panela and then at the tortilleria for warm tortillas still steaming from the press. Food was never just food. It was culture, comfort, creativity, generosity, and everyday joy.
As an adult, discovering cheesemaking felt almost magical. Milk could transform into something completely different in under an hour. But much of the cheesemaking world felt intimidating, expensive, overly technical, or disconnected from how most people actually live and cook today.
So she built Urban Cheesecraft to offer a different way in.
A simpler way.
A more modern way.
A more encouraging and beginner-friendly way.
Today, Urban Cheesecraft offers beginner-friendly DIY cheese kits, books, classes, and the new Cheesecraft Club membership experience, designed to help people build real confidence in the kitchen one cheese at a time.
Our kits and classes are intentionally designed for beginners:
- Grocery store milk
- Easy-to-find ingredients
- Small batches that fit real life
- Minimal equipment
- Step-by-step guidance from a trusted teacher
Whether you want to make mozzarella for pizza night, paneer for curries, burrata for a dinner party, or simply experience the quiet satisfaction of making something beautiful with your own hands, we're here to help you succeed.
Because cheesemaking is not just about cheese.
It's about slowing down for an hour. Learning something new. Sharing food with people you love. Feeling capable and creative again. Turning ordinary ingredients into something surprisingly special.
And once you make your first successful cheese, you may never look at milk the same way again.
